American Sign Language (ASL) Crews
Excellent Opportunity for Deaf or Hard of Hearing Youth and Young Adults: Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) is known for providing youth and young adults work opportunities in the great outdoors in a fun team-based learning environment that emphasizes personal growth and stewardship. This summer NYC is offering a program for youth and young adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing which provides participants opportunities to learn, grow, and experience success. Here is a chance for you to learn valuable work and outdoor skills, create new friendships, and make memories that will last a lifetime!
Explore: Under staff supervision with leaders who are fluent in ASL, crew members complete conservation projects that include trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and invasive species removal throughout the Pacific Northwest!
New Skills: While learning valuable lessons about teamwork and responsibility, participants will gain a sense of pride that comes with hard work and a job well done. Our Deaf and Hard of Hearing program nurtures and encourages leadership development as well as cultural exchange among the participants and leaders in the program.
Learn: Each day crews spend an hour working on a SEED (Something Educational Every Day) lesson. SEED topics cover environmental science, career pathways, and leadership development. At the end of the session, high school participants have logged enough SEED hours to earn high school credit.
Join the Team: No outdoor experience necessary – we will teach you everything you need to know! Youth (ages 16-19) who join our ASL Inclusion Crews earn up to $1,200 for a 4 week session 1,500 for 5 week session, plus up to $300 in bonuses!
