Please parents, DO NOT TELL your sons or daughters where they are headed the upcoming week. On Sunday morning, we have a surprise circle where we motivate the youth with what type of projects they will be completing, and where the crew is heading. Thanks for helping us keep this tradition alive and not divulging any future information to the youth.
Red Crew –This past week (8/15/10): Red crew is getting the chance to go explore, and totally rock the Siskiyou Wilderness, by logging out and brushing corridor on a section of the south Kelsey trail. They will live amongst the gnarly peaks, giant trees, secret rivers, and live life to the fullest. This project sounds amazing and Red crew will thoroughly enjoy themselves.
This Upcoming Week (8/22/10): Red crew is going to return to Northern California. This time they will be hiking into the Marble Mountain Wilderness, but actually staying on private land. The land is owned by a group of people that protect the area, and fish it, of whom which President Hoover was once included. Some say he was the “fishin president”. They will be tackling log-out and brushing the corridor.
Orange Crew – This past week (8/15/10): Orange crew will finish off our year at Crater Lake by completing the final stretch of work on the Northern section of the Pacific Crest Trail within the Park boundary. This is an amazing feat that NYC has been able to accomplish, and it is only fitting that Orange crew is the monster crew that will be the ones finishing an incredible legacy that has been the partnership between Crater Lake NP and NYC. Rock it out Orange Crew.
This Upcoming Week (8/22/10): Oange Crew is heading into the absolutely gorgeous UmpquaNational Forest. They will be working the trails system over near FishLake, another FishLake, I know it’s crazy! Anyway, they will have an incredible lake to go swimming in everyday after work, and plenty of brush and logs to clear out throughout the work day.
Yellow Crew – This past week (8/15/10): Yellow crew will stay in California, but move on over to the East side of the incredible, breathtaking Siskiyou Wilderness area. They will be working on the same trail as last week, the south Kelsey trail, just about 30 miles to the east. It will be a whole different area of flora and fauna to explore and learn about. I can’t wait to go and visit the Yellow crew one of my new favorite places in the Pacific Northwest, the KlamathMountains!
This Upcoming Week (8/22/10) Yellow is heading back into the Siskiyou wilderness, because they blew away their contact so much this past week. This seems to be a reoccurring theme for this crew. I’m very proud of the work that is being accomplished on the Kelsey National Recreation Trail by our Crews this summer. NYC has really left an incredible mark with the work we’ve been completing down in Northern California.
Blue Crew – This past week (8/15/10): Blue crew is picking up where Red crew left off, up on the McKenziePass. They will be completing the construction of the Scott trail heading through the Lava fields, until they reach the ever-epic Pacific Crest Trail. From the work sight, they will soak in the views of the high central Cascade range, which includes the 3 sister, Mt Jefferson, and Three Fingered Jack. Incredible Project, incredible worksite, incredible Crew.
This Upcoming Week(8/22/10) Blue crew is stationed in the backcountry for this past week, and they will roll right into this next week, without coming out. They didn’t need horsepackers, mainly due to the fact that they are so burly. The project continues to go amazing, and we are all very lucky to be able to work in such a location as the McKenziePass.
Weekend Site Information
This Weekend: (8/21/10) is NOT a Parent’s Weekend Site.
Next Week’s Weekend Site Information
There will be no weekend site for next weekend, only because it’s going to be GRADUATION DAY! The moment that makes all of our hearts melt, our eyes water, and our olfactory senses go into overload! They may or may not need to take a shower, depending on how keen your sense of smell is. We look forward to seeing everyone there, remember, it means a great deal for the youth that participate in this program to see their loved ones watch them successfully complete such a life-changing experience.
