Hello and Welcome to Field Updates!

This message was updated 8/20/10
Parents: Please do not tell your kids where they are going to be going for next week’s project – we like to surprise them and make it exciting, and when even one of them knows, the rest of the group finds out.

Red CrewThis Past Week  (8/16/10-8/20/10; week 4): Red Crew went BACKCOUNTRY in the Willamette wilderness for an amazing 2 WEEKS of trail maintenance!

This Upcoming Week (8/23/10-8/27/10; week 5): . Red Crew will be continuing on in their last of the 2 week project this week. It is SERIOUSLY gorgeous in their area and they are tearing up the project – doing some very impressive tread maintenance and brushing back some very unruly, jungly vegetation.

Orange CrewThis Past Week (8/16/10-8/20/10; week 4): Orange Crew got to move to Mt Hood for the first time! FOR 2 WEEKS IN THE BACKCOUNTRY!!!! YYEEEOOWWWW!!!!  They’ve got tread, brushing, and lots of other trail maintenance to do in a spectacular area that they loved. It was AWESOME.

This Upcoming Week (8/23/10-8/27/10; week 5): Orange Crew will be returning to Mt Hood for their last week on a different trail in the FRONT COUNTRY, taking a break from the wilderness in a nice cozy campground at the trailhead, working on more, more, MORE trail!

Yellow CrewThis Past Week (8/16/10-8/20/10; week 4):Yellow Crew came back to Mt Hood for some major trail maintenance in the front country – they’re really coming along as a crew and are completing some high quality work while building a great sense of community along the way….

This Upcoming Week (8/23/10-8/27/10; week 5):Yellow Crew is spending the rest of their time with NYC at Mt Hood in an awesome front country campsite, right next to a creek, nestled into a serene hillside. This week they get to armor trail to increase its longevity and create massive drainage dips to help with water runoff and improve its structural integrity. It’s going to be a huge, crazy fun project!

Blue CrewThis Past Week (8/16/10-8/20/10; week 4):Blue Crew has done SUCH a good job, and has been asking for more challenges so much, that we decided to put them on an INTENSE, 2 WEEK BACKCOUNTRY PROJECT ON MT HOOD!!! Lots…and lots…and LOTS of trail to be maintained. They were so psyched! They did an amazing job the 2 last weeks and we’re really proud of all they’ve accomplished – they were on a trail that is without a doubt the most difficult hike of the summer, yet they’ve excelled and done it all with a smile.

This Upcoming Week (8/23/10-8/27/10; week 5):Blue Crew has done so well the past few weeks that we’re rewarding them with more backcountry in one of the most beautiful spots of the session – in WILLAMETTE! They’ve got a short hike into their campsite AT A LAKE and then a week full of fun, engaging trailwork that includes construction of water bars, drainage dips, and other general tread maintenance.

Weekend Site Information

This Weekend: (8/21/10) IS NOT a Parent’s Weekend Site!

AND there will be no weekend site for next weekend (August 28-29), because it’s going to be GRADUATION DAY! The moment that makes all of our hearts melt, our eyes water, and our olfactory senses go into overload! They may or may not need to take a shower, depending on how keen your sense of smell is. We look forward to seeing everyone there, remember, it means a great deal for the youth that participate in this program to see their loved ones watch them successfully complete such a life-changing experience. Graduation is going to take place at our Headquarters on 2621 Augusta St at 11am on Sunday August 29th.
