Hello and Welcome to Field Updates!
Field Updates are updated every Friday between 12pm and 5pm.
North 4 update 08/20 Week 5
Red Crew -This Past Week (8/16- wk 4): The Red Crew was on the Pacific Crest Trail in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Using historic logging methods to fall trees, they’re built a 30’ tiered turnpike to distinguish the PCT from the other trail it crosses as well as clreaed out old drainages to properly drain the water off the trail. They were camped at an alpine lake where one minute they’re engulfed in clouds and the next they were backing in the sun. This is a magical place the youth seem to be enjoying.
This Upcoming Week (8/23-wk 5): The Red Crew will head back towards the PCT, but this time in the Glacier Peak Wilderness outside LakeWenatchee. The will be doing general trail maintenance, including everything from brushing to rock walls to cleaning old drainages.
Orange Crew - This Past Week (8/16- wk 4): This past week Orange Crew hiked 5 miles into the back country to work on the PCT and Goat Lake Trail. The crew did outstanding work surpassing Forest Service expectations. Each morning they were greeted on the trail with views of CastelMountain and mountain goats on the hills.
This Upcoming Week (8/23-wk 5): Orange Crew is head the John DayRiver Dam to repair barbwire fencing. This will be a great new skill to learn and a fantastic last week!
Yellow Crew - This Past Week (8/16- wk 4): Yellow Crew was in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. They followed up after Orange Crew lower down on the Ollalie Lake Trail. They did some awesome work brushing, clearing out drainages, capping old turnpikes, and making a heavily used trail more accessible for hikers.
This Upcoming Week (8/23-wk 5): The yellow crew is head the John DayRiver Dam to repair barbwire fencing. This will be a great new skill to learn and a fantastic last week!
Blue Crew - This Past Week (8/16- wk 4): Blue Crew has been in one of the most photographed mountain views in the world, Heather Meadows in the Mt. BakerNational Forest. They have been building rock check steps, rock water bars, LARGE rock walls, and more and more ROCK!Camped next to the frozen Lake Ann, the enjoy eating their breakfast with views of neighboring glacial ice, the Cascade Range in the distance, and creek running out of Lake Ann.Quite an amazing place.
This Upcoming Week (8/23-wk 5): LUCKY Blue Crew! Will remain at LakeAnn for their final week.
