Marcola School District: After School/Volunteer/Service Learning Coordinator

Program Description: 

Marcola is a small rural community located 30 minutes northeast of Eugene Oregon. The district serves approximately 250 students in grades K-12.  Marcola School District includes one Kindergarten through seventh grade elementary school and one 8-12 high school. Marcola has a four-day school week Monday through Thursday, and Fridays are reserved for staff development and extra-curricular activities. 

 

Job Description:

The AmeriCorps Coordinator will identify and develop volunteer opportunities with-in the district for parents and community members. The Coordinator will develop after school and Friday enrichment curriculum and implement this curriculum with students (including special needs students). The Coordinator assists in the development of service-learning projects for high school age youth, and will help build and create ways to sustain positive relationships with all segments of our community.

 

Duties/Responsibilities: Essential Functions

¤         Help provide after school core academic and enrichment activities for youth

¤         Lead youth in the safe & efficient completion of service projects

¤         Coordinate with staff and community to implement volunteer program

Duties/Responsibilities: Secondary Functions

¤         Act as a role model & leader

¤         Use conflict resolution skills & implement school’s disciplinary policy

¤         Prepare required daily & monthly paperwork

 

Desired Qualifications:

¤         One year of college education; undergraduate/graduate degree preferred

¤         Valid driver's license

¤         Experience teaching and/or leading youth, and ability to deal with a variety of youth behaviors

¤         Strong communication skills & a vested interest in community service

¤         Flexible personality to be able to deal with the unexpected

¤         Desire for personal challenge

 

Terms of service: 

1 full time 40-45 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, tentative dates for this year are August 22, 2011- June 23, 2012, for a minimum of 1700 hours during a 10 month term.

 

Program Benefits: 

$12,100 living allowance dispersed evenly on a monthly basis, health insurance, vacation according to school calendar, and a $5,550 education award upon completion of at least 1,700 hours of service. The living allowance and education award are taxable.  Members are responsible for providing housing, food, and transportation to and from work. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check.
