Service Learning Coordinator Position Description

 

 

 

 

 

Position Summary:  The Lincoln Middle School Service Learning Coordinator will identify and develop volunteer opportunities within the district for parents and community members. Member assists in the development of service-learning projects for youth and will develop after-school and other enrichment curriculum and implement this curriculum with students (including special needs students). Member will recruit and coordinate volunteers, organize class field trips and projects, and organize and carry out school-wide projects, including the annual “Day of Caring”.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Help provide after school core academic and enrichment activities for youth

·        Plan and lead field education, work activities, and community service days with youth

·        Act as a role model and disciplinarian for youth, manage conflict resolution

·        Complete and submit in a timely manner all Americorps required reports and time sheets

·        Attend Americorps sposored orientation, trainings, meetings , and events

·        Coordinate with staff and community to implement volunteer programs

·        Positively represent Northwest Youth Corps and the host site in other community events and meetings

·        Assist with other activities at school involving and supporting family involvement

 

Desired Qualifications:

·        Knowledge of community

·        Experience teaching and/or leading youth, and ability to deal with a variety of youth behaviors

·        Experience planning and executing events

·        Experience with field education

·        Strong communication skills and a vested interest in community service

·        Able to deal with the unexpected

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Willingness to do whatever it takes to serve the students, school, and community

·        Willingness to undergo a criminal and sex offender background check

·        Must provide current photo ID and proof that s/he is a US Citizen, US National, or Legal Permanent Resident.

·        Able and willing to complete a total of 1700 service hours in 10 months

 

Schedule Requirements:

·        Full time (40-45 hours a week) with a minimum of 1700 hours and 10 month term with occasional night and weekend hours from mid August to mid June.  Exact dates are subject to change.

·        Weekly schedule will include after school hours to provide activities for youth

 

Program Benefits:

·        Up to a total of $11,800 living allowance dispersed evenly on a monthly basis

·        Health insurance plan; Training; Child care, Loan forbearance, 15 days of break

·        $5,350 Education Award (upon completion of the 1700 hours of service)

·        The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing housing, food, and work clothes.
