Youth Corps Going Down South!!! Yehaw!

The Youth Corps department is sending two Leadership Development crews and the Corps Respond team to the Coronado NF in Arizona for 5 weeks during February and March.  The crews will be working on the Santa Catalina Ranger District in the Pusch Wilderness doing trail maintenance projects on a wide variety of trails.  This marks the second year that NYC has worked with the Coronado NF to train future outdoor leaders and complete work projects.

Sneak Peak: Where Youth Corps Will Be This Summer

The Youth Corps department is happy to announce that they will be continuing their partnership with the OregonState Parks and Recreation Department in the 2009 field season.  Funding has already been secured for work at White RiverFallsState Park and SaddleMountainState Natural Area.

 White River Falls

White River Falls SP is one of Oregon's secret hideaways located just east of TyghValley along Highway 216. The White River plunges 90' over a basalt shelf. The park offers excellent viewpoints of the White River falls. A rugged quarter-mile trail takes hikers down deep within the canyon to the historic hydroelectric power plant at the base of the raw, churning power of the falls. The power plant supplied electricity to Wasco and ShermanCounties from 1910 until the completion of The Dalles Dam in 1960.

 Saddle MountainState Natural Area

Two and a half miles. That's all it is from the parking lot (elev. 1,650') to the summit of SaddleMountain (elev. 3,283'). Be prepared to marvel at the sheer volume of natural beauty packed onto the mountain, from a mature forest setting to fields of wildflowers to an open rocky summit. The view from the top of the mountain is one that cannot be described ... it must be experienced.
