FedEx/Kinkos and AidMatrix Donate 18 Computers To Northwest Youth Corps
November 16, Eugene, OR - Dozens of teenagers at Eugene's OutDoor High School now have a functioning computer lab thanks to the generous donation of 18 computers from FedEx/Kinkos and AidMatrix. The old computer lab was a compilation of ancient machines; now there is a full lab of 2004 Dell desktops. "We are very excited and grateful for these new computers," said OutDoor School Principal Jeff Orlandini. "Our teachers will finally be able to incorporate more online resources into our classes and lesson plans. Those old computers just couldn't keep up with the other resources available."
Students are also very excited about the new tools. "These old computers are so slow, it's hard to use them for anything. Sometimes projects disappear on them, sometimes they won't even start," said freshman Tiffany Wilhit. "We really needed this. Also, they will look a lot better."
The OutDoor School will not throw away the old computers, but intends to recycle them in an ingenious way. "We would like to fix some of them up and give them away to students as rewards or prizes," said Principal Orlandini. "Computer labs require a certain standard of technology, but there is no reason these machines couldn't be put to good use individually in the homes of our students."
Two FedEx/Kinkos, located on Willamette St. and the beltline, worked with AidMatrix to coordinate the initial donation of eight computers. The FedEx/Kinkos on Willamette then donated another ten computers on its own. The computers will be installed in the OutDoor School computer lab from Monday, November 19th through Friday, November 30th.
