Thank you to everyone who has responded to our “Murdock Challenge”. As you may remember, NYC will receive this grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust only when we have the remaining funds “in hand” to start renovations of our front entrance and building core. We’ve received gifts ranging from an anonymous $2 to many thousands of dollars, to a generous $80,000 grant from the Collins Foundation, putting us at 71% of our renovation budget goal. The Ford Family Foundation—another of NYC’s funders this year—is also a believer in the power and potential of youth. Congratulations to NYC corpsmember Halley Cummings who was awarded a full four year college scholarship through The Ford Scholars Program. Ford scholarship recipients must demonstrate an understanding of the value of work, taking responsibility, giving back and helping others. NYC is proud that Ford Scholar Halley will giving back to the community this summer as a returning NYC corpsmember, and that she is actively encouraging other Ford scholarship recipients to take the NYC Challenge.
