AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM ASSISTANT

(AmeriCorps Position, 2011-12)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Program planning and classroom assistance during school hours 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Lead a daily reading group for K-2 students in the Reading Mastery Program.
- Assist with after-school program activities Monday – Thursday 3:00 -6:00 p.m. and Fridays 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Central Linn operates on a 4-day school week). Before school hours may be added/substituted based on parent demand.
- Coordinate 6th grade Outdoor School program in Spring, 2012.
- Maintain school garden and develop opportunities for staff to use it as a teaching resource.
- Assist with Summer Reading Program in summer 2012.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Promote family and community involvement by planning family-oriented events and advertising volunteer opportunities.
- Coordinate with school administrators, CAP on-site and administrative staff, community groups and others to develop, plan and carry-out various additional extracurricular programs for K-12 students.
- Maintain, update and distribute printed and web-based information materials.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree or higher.
- Experience working with elementary-aged youth.
- Consent to criminal background check and fingerprinting.
- Able and willing to complete a total of 1700 service hours in 10 months.
- Valid driver’s license, own transportation.

- Strong communication skills and a vested interest in community service.
- Flexible personality and ability to deal with a wide variety of community groups.

SCHEDULE:
10-month, full-time position (40-45 hours per week*). Occasional night and weekend hours. *The AmeriCorps Program requires 1700 hours of service from participants to qualify for the educational stipend.
