Rural School Program
The NYC - Rural School Program places AmeriCorps members in various rural schools throughout Lane County including Marcola, Oakridge, and Cottage Grove. Members are placed at these sites with the purpose of providing service to these school in particular areas of need specific to each school, including after school programming, lunch enrichment activities, in-service day student supervision, service learning project development and coordination, and community service activities. During the 2006-2007 school year NYC - AmeriCorps members recruited over 850 volunteers for various service day projects totaling over 3000 volunteer hours for the year! The Rural School Program is vital to these participating schools and communities. The members offer positive alternative activities for school age children and youth in a safe/supervised environment.
